How to install stair handrail fittings?

Measure the wall vertically from the end of the nose of the stairs at each step. Mark the 36-inch wall. Place a straight edge along the marker. Use chalk lines to connect all markers.

Run the stud finder along the line. Mark each stud on the line. Standard stud spacing is 16 inches. Select studs 32 inches apart for the fitting and mark with an "X".

Place one of the handrail fittings support fittings on the wall directly on one of the selected studs, with the top of the handrail fitting 3/4 inch below the chalk line on the wall. The handrail fitting has an inclined "L" shape with a triangular plate at the bottom with three holes. The slab shall be flush with the wall.

Place a 12-inch level on top of the rod to level the handrail fitting. Hold the connector in place with one hand. Use a drill bit / driver with a 5/32-inch drill bit to drill pilot holes in the three holes on the triangular plate. Drill through drywall to a minimum depth of 1.5 inch.

Insert the 2-inch screw into the hole. Tighten them with a driver and fix the support bracket to the wall. Install a handrail fittings support on each stud marked "X".

Place the handrail on the bracket. Center it and divide the overhang evenly at both ends. Place a "U" shaped handrail attachment bracket under each rod. There are flat wings on both sides of the top of the "U" support. There are holes in the wings, close to the bottom of the handrail.

Insert the 3/4-inch screw into the hole. Use a driver to push the screw vertically upward into the bottom of the armrest to secure it. You do not need pre drilling. When the screw is tightened, it will hold the "U" shape around the rod to fix the handrail fittings.

Function of handrail fittings

Handrail fittings are precision machined handrail components to match our straight handrail and curved handrail belt profiles. Handrail fitting are used to connect two handrails at different angles, such as between corners or stairs and floor handrails. Handrail fittings are used to terminate handrails, such as volutes or turnouts. In fact, some handrail fittings can be used as transition or termination accessories, such as quarter turn accessories, which can connect two handrails at the corner or end to the wall on the wall hanging guide rail.

There are two types of handrail fitting, that are, horizontal and jog. Horizontal pipe joints are basically "flat" fittings that change direction in the same plane. The jogging accessories are more three-dimensional accessories, allowing the handrail to change direction up and down.
